Slayers Chapter Eightteen
"I know how you feel, I miss those feelings as well, never thought i'd end up like this..... i'll never really know what it's like to die of old age, or to get old for that matter, but oh well." zel looked over at fads "so where and/or what should we do next?"
"I don't know, I say we stay here a while, it's too nice to go anywhere else... besides we've had enough adventure to last us a loooooong time."
With a slight chuckle in his voice "yeah, you're right, besides it is really nice here." Zel lay down on his back and continued to gaze up at the night sky "ya know we're gonna need to find a place to hide you from the sun soon right."
"I can just bury myself in the ground, sleep there, although it will be a bit uncomfortable. Shame I've gotten so used to sleeping in beds, but I haven't really tried being out in the day, since I'm part witch I wonder if I can be out during the day... Maybe I should try it."
"If you really want to try but i would suggest some sunscreen.... i mean even if you don't burst into a fiery death, which would totally suck, you're still kinda 'white'... ya know." zel said as he continued to gaze up at the sky
"True, I'm white, this isn't a surprise, however... I don't think spontaneous combustion will be an issue, and if I am hurt then I can simply bury myself..."
"I guess well it'll only be a short wait as it appears that the sun is rising now" zel said as he sat up and looked off into the direction the sun was rising. "It should look really nice from here."
fads grew a little restless, her body wanted to go hide, but her mind had rooted her right where she was. She wondered what the sun would feel like now...
zel felt fads nervous anticipation and scooted up next to her and placed his arm around her shoulder "It'll be fine.." he said with a soothing smile
"you sure you wanna go though with this" hesaid looking at the rising sun "another minute and it'll crest the far ridgeline and it'll be done..." as he pointed to the distant ridgeline
She scooted closer too him, but remained where she sat. The light was bright and she was squinting, her pale skin now seeming even more pale. "If I catch on fire just help me bury myself..."
"I really don't think you are gonna burst into flames or anything but i'll be here either way, well here goes" zel said as the sun fully crested the moutainside
Fads closed her eyes in the bright lite, her breath caught in her throat unable to move, there was no smoke, no flames, nothing... She just sat there.... After a moment or two she whispered "well I'm not dead, so that's good, I just cant see right yet."
"well thats a good start, we'll take this one step at a time, once you get used to it we can leave or stay here if you like, i doubt anybody would expect usto be moving during the day." zel said as he shielded fads face with his hand.
She smiled a bit, "yeah just give me a bit, it's been a long time since I've been out in the sun..."
"It's okay just take your time, just let me know when you're good."
They sat there a little while as fads opened her eyes more and more... Soon they were fully open and she was able to stand up with a little guidance... "woah dude, getting used to super nite vision was a trip but this!!! This is like getting up and seeing stars cos you moved to fast and the blood didn't follow... " she said with a quirky smile...
"Always the one to joke, well you seem to be okay now, we should prolly figure out our next move."
"Sure" she said.. "Anywhere you want to go?"
::and with that our two intrepid adventuring misfits traveled off into the sunrise in search of a much more friendly climate::
